Maria Michaelson

When something is personal enough it becomes universal. My work is about reaching into my own mythology, and uncovering something that is intrinsic to being alive on this earth. I am illustrating what it means to be part of the human story. My work is about the spirit world, that material world, the emotional world.

Maria is a sculptor working with human and animal forms, high relief textures, with thought provoking or whimsical stories to tell. Her pieces may be appropriate for outdoor installations or indoor gallery viewing. In addition to her focus on her own personal and public art, Maria is on the San Juan Arts Council and also operates the Alchemy Art Center that offers handson classes, workshops with visiting guests, and hosts both a clay and a photogrpahy makerspace open to all ages.
