San Juan Preservation Trust

The San Juan Islands exist at the intersection of the vast waters that comprise the Salish Sea. These islands offer refuge to a breathtaking web of life, renew the human spirit, and support a vibrant community of farms, neighborhoods, and businesses. Our purpose is to conserve and care for this remarkable place, now and forever.

The first thing we know, which guides everything we do, is that the beauty and spirit of this land stems from its ecology. Since our founding in 1979, we have gained a much deeper understanding of these natural systems and our place within them. That understanding will only continue to grow in the years ahead.

In the face of climate change, our challenge is to be bold. We envision resilient islands with healthy shorelines and tidepools, growing eelgrass beds, rebounding salmon populations, crystal-clear streams, abundant local farms producing food, and maturing forests—all alongside thriving island communities.

We value nature, integrity, collaboration, diversity, innovation and the pursuit of excellence, and fun!

Together, what we do now will benefit our community and the greater Cascadia region for generations to come.
